During the month of Ramadan, in addition to fasting, we are taught to compete in doing good deeds. Humanity First Indonesia invites all of humanity to do good deeds through the Clean Water program for East Nusa Tenggara.
This program is part of the Water For Life program. Water For Life has been implemented since 2005, when Humanity First (HF) Indonesia was established. In addition to Water For Life, HF Indonesia also has various other humanitarian programs, such as Orphan care, Knowledge For Life, Food Security, and Global Health. The Water For Life program itself has successfully provided benefits in various areas, including Aceh, Nias, Gunungkidul, Bogor, Palu, and the current one being worked on, which is in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
NTT was selected as the target location for the Water For Life program based on assessments conducted by the HF Indonesia team, both through literature studies and direct field surveys. Currently, the condition of NTT is still very difficult in terms of clean water, especially during the dry season. NTT is a province with a longer dry season compared to other provinces and has a low level of rainfall. The condition of its rocky terrain, combined with social and cultural influences and unresolved PDAM management issues, are also some of the factors that make it difficult to provide clean water in NTT.
In addition, many people in NTT still have low incomes, making it difficult to drill for water as it requires a large amount of money, ranging from 50 to 100 million rupiahs, depending on the location. Therefore, NTT residents have to buy clean water, which costs them around 300-400 thousand rupiahs per month. Even the cost of buying clean water is more expensive than the cost of food there.
The “Clean Water for NTT” program will drill for water at five locations, with the following locations:
- Kupang Regency
- TTU Regency
- Tanadjawa Village, Prema Hamlet, Hawu Mehara District, Sabu Raijua Regency
- Hallapadji Village, Raya Bawa Hamlet, Sabu Liae District, Sabu Raijua Regency
- PU Roundabout Road, TDM Village, Route 3
